The Asian Research Centre invites you to a Conference on Globalization and Economic Nationalism in Asia, on 3-4 December 2009. The conference focuses on the significance of economic nationalism in Asia in an era of changing global capitalism. Using comparative, regional, and sectoral approaches, speakers will present their perspective on how economic nationalism has changed in Asia in the last 30 years and what discuss what developments we can expect in the future.

Keynote speakers for this conference are Professor Ajit Singh, Cambridge University, and Professor Mark Selden, Cornell University.

Professor Ajit Singh, in his presentation "Globalisation and Economic Nationalism: An Asian Perspective", will examine and explain Asian economic development by looking at the optimal degree of economic openness. Mark Selden, in his discussion on "Nationalism and Regionalism in Contemporary East Asia", will offer an historical perspective on the conflicting forces of nationalism and regionalism at play in contemporary East Asia so as to chart regional dynamics within a non-Eurocentric framework.
