Sustainability Seminar Series: Is a Breakthrough in Climate Change Governance on the Horizon?

COSI is a new partnership between the CBS Sustainability Platform, Sustainability Science Centre at University of Copenhagen, and theTechnical University of Denmark.
About the Seminar: The recently released IPCC report highlighted again the urgency of addressing climate change and the international community has pledged to devise the next international agreement on climate change by 2015. The EU has forged ahead with Scandinavian countries in particular advancing a variety of policies to respond to climate change. Regions, municipalities, and private actors across the world are also contributing to climate governance. Have we reached a tipping point where a breakthrough on climate change governance is near?
This seminar addresses this question in light of the review of findings from the Fifth Assessment IPCC Report and recent scholarly research on urban, regional and networked climate governance. Will the existing governance inroads make available pathways for climate action that lead to a more effective global response to climate change?

Bios:
Matt Hoffmann is visiting CBS from the University of Toronto where he is a Professor of Political Science. He is the author of Ozone Depletion and Climate Change: Constructing a Global Response (SUNY Press 2005) and coeditor with Alice Ba of Contending Perspectives on Global Governance (Routledge 2005). His most recent book is Climate Governance at the Crossroads: Experimenting with a Global Response after Kyoto (Oxford University Press 2011).
Maria Figueroa is one of the Lead Authors in the Working Group III, IPCC Fifth Assessment Report on Mitigation Options. She was the Coordinating Lead Author in the Global Energy Assessment (Cambridge University Press, 2012) and the co-author of A New Sustainability Agenda (Ashgate, 2010). She has been Assistant Professor in Sustainable Urban Pathways at the Danish Technical University and is currently associated with the Department of Business and Politics at CBS.
Simon Bolwig is Senior Researcher and Head of Climate Change and Sustainable Development in the Department of Management Engineering, Technical University of Denmark. He works on institutional and economic aspects of climate change mitigation and sustainable energy, including bioenergy.
Lau Blaxekjær is PhD Fellow at the Department of Political Science, University of Copenhagen, and Visiting Pre-Doctoral Fellow at McGill University (2013). Lau’s work focuses on global climate governance, especially new practices of governance. He has conducted fieldwork at COPs 17–19 with special focus on the post-2015 agreement and the emergence and performance of new negotiation groups. Lau is co-founder and vice-president of the Danish Research Network on Climate Politics.
