Art as an Alternative Investment

ABSTRACT: Since the turn of the millennium, investing in art has garnered increasing interest among alternative asset investors. Fuelled by a strong rise in global wealth and the search for yield in an environment of low interest rates and stock returns, the global art market has expanded exponentially. But is investing in art a serious alternative to standard asset classes such as equities and bonds? The most recent research on art as an alternative asset class indicates that returns have been over-exaggerated. This seminar discusses the key findings on art as an investment with a special focus on my recent work on art and gender.”Location:
