Next generation data mining platforms will include energy management in smart grids and telematics. Wireless sensor networks, smart grid infrastructure, and smart grid aware household appliances are important IT platforms addressing environmental sustainability. We propose a research and educational platform blueprint for next generation data mining within smart grid and possibly telematics research. We use mostly Java-based tools and include a running demonstration of using Lego Mindstorms to receive and act on smart grid pricing information. Furthermore, the data mining platform Rapid Miner is used to demonstrate how embedded usage statistics data can be classified with a popular classification algorithm.

ItGrows – module-based IT platform for optimizing horticultural growth This PhD project is a design science research project focusing on interaction design. The project is part of a Human Work Interaction Design (HWID) research project developing an internet- and sensor-based ICT system for climate management in greenhouses. Greenhouse growers use information systems for climate management in plant and vegetable production in greenhouses. The PhD project conducts research into an interaction design development process where new user interfaces are developed for climate management software for greenhouses.

Acquisitions are standard components of the growth strategies of many organizations. Frequently, acquisitions raise important questions concerning how and to what extent the acquisition’s information technology (IT) needs to be integrated into the IT of the acquirer. We investigate how the initial conditions of business and IT alignment in the acquirer and the acquisition affect the complexity of the post-acquisition IT integration process, in acquisitions of business units by multi-business organizations.
