“For two consecutive years cohorts of 15-20 M.Sc. students have visited Marseilles and, looking at the outcome of those two trips and the number of students taking on a maritime subject for their master’s thesis, they have been a great success. Almost all the students ended up writing their thesis within a maritime area and afterwards the majority of them have been employed by maritime companies, particularly in Norway and Denmark,” says Director of CBS Maritime, Henrik Sornn-Friese, who is also Academic Director of the M.Sc. Program in Economics and Business Administration (Cand.merc.).

A maritime study trip for students enrolled in the Minor of Maritime Business has the double aim at providing the students specialized classes on selected maritime issues taught by leading international scholars within the field of maritime economics as well as the opportunity to visit real-life maritime companies and discuss the theoretical understanding and models with practitioners in an everyday context.

In 2015 the study trip is set for the City of Hamburg. CBS Maritime has arranged with Hamburg’s Kühne Logistics University that they offer a specially designed course on container shipping and logistics, as well as day trips to visit selected maritime companies, to those students enrolled in CBS’ Minor in Maritime Business who have chosen to write their thesis on a maritime topic or with a maritime company. So far, 16 students have signed up for the trip, which will take place in the week of March 16.

About The Minor in Maritime Business
The Minor in Maritime Business at CBS’ M.Sc. study program in Economics and Business Administration (Cand.merc.) gives students the option of complementing their business economics skills and competencies with deep knowledge of the global shipping industry and the workings of international maritime logistics and trade. The Minor is a collection of three courses: 1) "Developments in International Shipping", 2) "Global Transportation and Maritime Logistics", and 3) "Management of Maritime Operations within Supply Chains".
