New research models populism as a recursive system

This study uncovers the dynamics behind the rise of populism, highlighting the interplay between voters' grievances and the populist rhetoric that addresses them. Using high-frequency media data from 72 countries, researchers model the relationship as a recursive system where voter demands and political responses amplify one another.
