This study uncovers the dynamics behind the rise of populism, highlighting the interplay between voters' grievances and the populist rhetoric that addresses them. Using high-frequency media data from 72 countries, researchers model the relationship as a recursive system where voter demands and political responses amplify one another. Employing vector autoregression, the study emphasizes the bidirectional influence between public sentiment and political strategy, revealing a self-reinforcing cycle. LINK
