The launch was hosted by Carsten Ørts Hansen, Head of the Department of Operations Management at CBS, who emphasized the importance of this publication for the department and the broader academic community.
He noted,” This book marks an important evolution from our roots in logistics to a comprehensive exploration of supply chain management, emphasizing the real-world applications and implications of our research.”

In his presentation of the book, Andreas Wieland highlighted how the book presents a critical view of the complexities facing modern supply chains, including global economic vulnerabilities, environmental impacts, and ethical concerns. The presentation by Philip Beske-Janssen elaborated on the transformative potential of circular supply chains far beyond recycling, which aim to minimize waste and maximize resource efficiency by creating closed-loop systems. He emphasized the need for a paradigm shift in how supply chains are designed and managed, advocating for a move away from the traditional linear model of “take, make, dispose” towards a more sustainable, regenerative approach.

Beske-Janssen’s presentation provided practical examples of how circular supply chains can be implemented in various industries, illustrating the economic and environmental benefits but also the importance of collaboration among stakeholders, including manufacturers, consumers, and policymakers, to achieve a sustainable supply chain ecosystem.

“The Supply Chain: A System in Crisis” urges readers to rethink conventional frameworks and to champion sustainability and transformative policies.Thank you to everyone who attended and supported our event!
