More students than ever before have ideas for new business opportunities

The submission deadline for ideas to the Venture Cup Idea Competition has expired and with submission of 67 ideas, resolute CBS students set a new Venture Cup record.

In the lead

The CBS students are well positioned in the competition, where the finalists in the five categories (Services, Software, Cleantech, Applied Technology and Life Science) are to compete for DKK 25,000 at the finals in January 2010.

The number of submissions has increased by almost 40% compared to last year thanks to students from all over Denmark, and the Venture Cup Managing Director Tine Thygesen is thrilled.

- It is an incredibly positive development that an increasing number of students have opened their eyes to the many opportunities entrepreneurship involves and have started to develop new methods, services and products. That is exactly the attitude we need to overcome the financial crisis and become stronger in the process, she says.

Service and environment popular among students

Almost half of the ideas submitted by the CBS students are based on the dream of becoming an entrepreneur in the services area. The ideas in this category deal with services in marketing, tourism, the financial sector, etc. The runner-up is the category Cleantech, which was the second most popular category among the CBS students. Here, the focus is on ideas that may help improve the environmental situation.

About Venture Cup

Venture Cup is the universities’ joint competition for ideas and research with business potential. The competition is organised by seven Danish universities and takes place every year over the course of the study year. The participants get help to develop their ideas into investment-ready business plans through a series of seminars and workshops as well as individual coaching and feedback from a professional jury. Cash prizes at the amount of more than half a million kroner are awarded during the competition. Since 2000, more than 70 businesses have been established based on Venture Cup ideas.
