Research project on public management in the future

The Danish Ministry of Finance has granted the CBS Center for Business Development and Management DKK 10 million to spend on a research project on public management in the future. The project is a concrete result of the Quality Reform’s development process.

The research project is to uncover the terms for management in the public sector as well as provide directions as regards the terms and competences public managers need now and in the future. The timeframe for the research project is three years (2010-2013).

Unique cooperation

The grant has been given to the centre and is to be spent on the network ”FORUM for fremtidens offentlige ledelse og styring” (FORUM for future public management and governance) in cooperation with researchers, practitioners and decision-makers. - It is a unique interdisciplinary cooperation, and the goal is to look into future management in the public sector by examining six different subareas, Project Manager Henrik Hjortdal says. A PhD fellow will be assigned to each area.

The six projects include research on: laboratories as development strategy, current perceptions of managerial development and education, strategy with meaning, managerial educations and its implications, forms of governance at the institutional level and general governance in relation to local organisation of production and innovation.

FORUM is a network with the purpose of encouraging debate on the governance and management of the future according to the concept of New Public Management. FORUM was initiated by the Center for Business Development and Management in cooperation with a number of ministries, the City of Frederiksberg, Central Denmark Region, the Metropolitan University College, the Danish Association of Lawyers and Economists (DJØF), the Confederation of Professionals in Denmark (FTF), Earnst & Young and Deloitte.
