Teaching activities also take place outside the classroom
New media, new platforms and software paved the way for this year's awards, when the Danish Society for the Advancement of Business Education (FUHU) and CBS gave both staff and students who have done something extraordinary the past year a well-deserved pat on the back. Several of the winners have raised the level of teaching by means of new technology.
For instance, a number of lecturers were presented to one of the FUHU teaching awards for brand new web-based teaching material.
- The team behind Strateginet (strategy net), which also consist of a number of video interviews. has not just introduced new teaching platforms. They have also created new activities and relations between lecturers and public and private organisations, said Birgit Aagard-Svendsen, Chairman of FUHU.
Teaching continues online
The other FUHU teaching award was granted to Serden Özcan, Associate Professor, who, in close collaboration with the students, has developed an entirely new platform, which focuses on learning outside the classroom. In less than three months, he has created the CBS Case Forum, in which the students can challenge and learn from each other and find new solutions with the lecturer.
- This project really demonstrates how a lecturer can improve the teaching activities by developing and introducing new tools, said Birgit Aagaard-Svendsen.
New ground-breaking methods
Per Holten-Andersen, President of CBS, also focused on the new types of teaching, when he presented the CBS awards, one of which was awarded to Henrich Dahlgren, External Lecturer.
- Henrich Dahlgren is a great example of how new technology can be used to create new ground-breaking pedagogical methods and interdisciplinary teaching, said Per Holten-Andersen, when he presented one of CBS' teaching awards to Henrich Dalgren.
Henrich Dahlgren encourages the students to use the digital learning platforms and spends a lot of time giving feedback to the students online, just as he uses it as a tool to elaborate on his lectures. Besides that, he has developed new software, which makes it possible for the lecturer to perform tests during teaching and get the results immediately.
CBS' other teaching award went to James Perry, Assistant Professor. Per Holten-Andersen noted that James had been capable of getting the students to love "double-entry bookkeeping” and ”cash flow statements”.
