PhD Workshop: Writing as embodied practice

Alison Pullen, Macquarie University, will hold a workshop on 'Writing as embodied practice' on 20 August, 10:00 - 12:00.

Tirsdag, 20 august, 2019 - 10:00 to 12:00

Embodied writing has written against mainstream, disembodied writing offering a means to represent alternative ways of being and knowing.  An activist project, embodied writing ruptures the silence of the status quo. The implications of this writing are significant, including asking how academic quality is judged? How this writing is reviewed? What are the politics of asking authors to revise their embodied writing? When is a piece ready for publication? Are academic journals an appropriate outlet for this activist writing? In this session, I will reflect on some projects that I have been involved with, and look to my own writing, published and unpublished, to think about writing on the body, writing with and through the body, and embodied writing as resistance to explore what can and can’t be said through such writing, the different forms and motivations for embodied writing, and the ethical possibilities that can pursue. Bring a 300 word piece of free writing to share with the group and come prepared to move around.
