PhD defence: Robin Porsfelt
The thesis traces the epistemological history, structure, and influence of an overlooked school of nineteenth-century economic thought rooted in semiotics. The analysis shows how the development of designated economic and financial techniques of sign analysis were critical to how phenomena like national economies, financial markets, and value were imagined, became seen as predictable, and how it conventionalised modes of representing economic life that still live on today.
