Looking towards Norden: Insecurity and polarisation make us revisit our relationships with neighbouring countries

An increasingly insecure and polarised Europe is causing renewed interest in Norden. Come to ‘Looking towards Norden – Once Again’ and listen to a number of short presentations on the latest research on the Nordic countries within the social sciences and humanities , including how the Nordic countries have dealt with external challenges, how Nordic cooperation has fared over the years, and how Norden is perceived around the world.

The following short presentations will be in the Scandinavian languages and will take place on 22nd August from 3.30pm at Kilen. They will be followed by refreshments and networking:

• Cooperation and confrontation in Nordic Civil Society since 1800, with Ruth Hemstad from the National Library of Norway and the University of Oslo.
• Associative Governance: A Nordic Way?, with Haldor Byrkjeflot from the University of Oslo.
• Grand Challenges in the Nordics in a Global Context, with Caroline de la Porte from Copenhagen Business School.
• Does the Nordic Model exist?, with Mads Mordhorst from Copenhagen Business School.
• Norden as an argument, with Johan Strang from the University of Helsinki.

The event is organised by the university hub Reimagining Norden in an Evolving World (ReNEW) and nordics.info, both supported by NordForsk. The six universities in ReNEW include Copenhagen Business School and the universities of Iceland, Oslo, Aarhus, Södertörn and Helsinki. The five short presentations will be based on recent, well-received publications.
