New global ground rules call for better strategic management

How should companies, boards, etc. work with strategy in 2016? The new handbook STRATEGI has recommendations for this.

An increased global insecurity, growing regulation, shorter life cycles for companies, and the disintegration of conventional differences between industries all call for better strategic management and a better, wider, and more conscious understanding of the concept 'strategy'.

What's the use, if our mindset is locked on a world scheme that no longer exists?

This is the focus of a recently published book, which sets the scene for how companies, boards, managers, and staff will be able to work with strategy in 2016 in a Danish-Scandinavian context. Being short and exact, the objective of the book is to support those efforts.

This is also reflected in the title: STRATEGI. The book is a collaboration between Michael Moesgaard Andersen, CEO and Adjunct Professor at CBS, and Flemming Poulfelt, Professor of Management and Strategy and Vice Dean at CBS. Poulfelt says:

"The book is progressive the way in which strategy is thought, developed, and implemented. It is based on a solid foundation composed of classical strategy thinking and the most recent knowledge in the area. And we top it off with 101 strategic tools. The book places the audience directly in the strategic engine house" he says and points towards five questions, which is answered:

•    Why is it necessary to work with strategy?
•    How do we work with strategy?
•    Who should be included in the process?
•    Which methods and tools are suitable for different situations?
•    How do we execute a strategy to reach maximum effect? 


The main points of the book are illustrated by examples of current strategic efforts and challenges of companies.   For instance, we are presented with an answer to the question why Danish B&O were not able to achieve the same success as Apple, although a number of core competences were present.
