Spectacular university building awaits CBS students and faculty in Beijing

If you’re planning to study or do research in China, a spectacular new university building awaits you in Beijing.

The Danish-Chinese university, called Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research, or SDC, officially inaugurated a new building designed by the Danish architects Lundgaard & Tranberg, who also designed Kilen, a prize-winning building on the CBS campus.

Stine Jessen Haakonsson, the principal coordinator for social science education and research at SDC and an associate professor at the Department of Business and Politics at CBS, attended the ceremony on Tuesday, where students, researchers, ministers and royalty took part in inaugurating the building. Haakonsson talked about how the building helps underline the value of the collaboration:
 
“CBS’ commitment to SDC is important due to the eastward shift in financial and political influence. We’re actively involved in the most popular SDC programmes and participate in a variety of research projects in collaboration with our Chinese colleagues.”

Also in attendance at the grand opening were the Danish Minister for Higher Education and Science Søren Pind and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark. After the ceremony, they took part in a 1.2K run on the Great Wall of China with SDC students.

Facts about CBS’ commitment to SDC
•    CBS has been part of the social sciences at SDC since 2009.
•    SDC is a joint venture with the University of Chinese Academy of Science, one China’s biggest universities.
•    CBS’ accreditation includes a double degree master’s programme in public management and social development.
•    SDC provides funding for several PhD students.
•    A number of CBS researchers collaborate directly with their Chinese colleagues under the auspices of SDC on topics such as sustainable change, technology transfers, internationalisation of Danish companies, corporate social responsibility, China’s new role in the global order, HR, organisational analysis and IT management.
