On March 20th 2015, John Y. Campbell will be appointed Honorary Doctor at Copenhagen Business School and the Department of Economics (ECON).
 

"Mortgages in Household Finance: 
Some Lessons from Denmark”

Mortgages, the largest financial contract most households enter into, are surprisingly difficult to manage correctly.  Unique features of the Danish mortgage system make it possible to measure the ability of households to refinance their mortgages appropriately.  This lecture presents joint research with CBS faculty member Professor Steffen Andersen, showing that less sophisticated Danish households tend to refinance sluggishly, and draws lessons for mortgage market design. 

John Y. Campbell's bio in brief

John Y. Campbell is the Morton L. and Carole S. Olshan Professor of Economics at Harvard University. Campbell is a world-leading scholar in Finance and Economics and a pioneer in the relatively new field of household finance.  He has served as President of the American Finance Association and as Director of the Program in Asset Pricing at the National Bureau of Economic Research.  He is a Fellow of the Econometric Society and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a Corresponding Fellow of the British Academy and Honorary Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Oxford. Campbell has published over 90 articles and three books on asset price fluctuations, risk premia, and portfolio choice among other topics.  His most recent work focuses on household financial decision-making and ways to improve the operation of the financial system.
