PhD Defense: Stefanie Steinbeck
In order to obtain the PhD degree, Stefanie Steinbeck has submitted her thesis entitled:
Affective milieu in children’s museum experiences: An ethnographic study with young visitors at the Danish Workers Museum
Inspired by the affective turn in the humanities and social sciences, this thesis explores the potentialities of affective milieu in young visitor's museum experiences. Using ethnographic methods, the research examines affectivities in children’s roles as visitors, students, and collaborators. The study finds that children's experiences are shaped by affective dynamics, from the physical space to social interactions. The thesis calls for a shift towards affective curatorship, enhancing museum visits by fostering emotional engagements with the past.
The thesis will be available from research.cbs.dk
