Tutorial with Katya Malinova, University of Toronto and DeGroote School of Business
The FRIC Center at the Department of Finance is proud to announce the upcoming Tutorial with Katya Malinova, University of Toronto and DeGroote School of Business on:
Blockchain technology and its impact on the financial services industry
Brief description:
A blockchain establishes a distributed, censorship resistant, and immutable ledger of cryptographically linked transaction records. The technology promises to enable transfers of value with minimal frictions and no censorship, similarly to how the internet allows the sharing of information. This two-hour lecture will provide the audience with an overview of blockchain architecture and functionality, including the key economic concepts and cryptographic features. We will further touch upon the limitations of public blockchains and several proposed solutions, as well as prominent private blockchain projects. Finally, we will discuss the main applications of the technology to financial services such as cryptocurrencies, tokens, and coins, and we will briefly address regulatory and economic challenges.
