China's Economic Bearing on Europe - Is this just the beginning?

Abstract:
Since China’s entry into the WTO 15 years ago, European and Chinese trade and commercial co-operation have increased immensely. What will European-Chinese economic co-operation look like in 10 to 15 years? Will China be stable and continue its economic development? Will Chinese investments into Europe continue in a steady flow? Will Chinese economic competition become strong and will Europe – or some European countries – react? Will Europe find it beneficial actively to support China’s vision and construction of a New Silk Road, the One Belt, One Road (OBOR) initiative? In his lecture, James Kynge will give his assessment of future European and Chinese economic co-operation.
About the speaker:
James Kynge is emerging markets editor and associate editor at the Financial Times and is one of the most senior European observers of China’s economic development. Previously, Kynge was Principal of FT Confidential, the Financial Times’ premium research services on China, South East Asia and Latin America. He remains Chairman of FT Confidential. A recipient of several journalism awards, Kynge has been a correspondent based in Japan, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Russia, former Soviet Central Asia and Hong Kong over the past 28 years. He was China Bureau Chief of the Financial Times for seven years until 2005 and later headed up the Pearson Group of companies' business operations in China. His prize-winning book China Shakes the World: A Titan’s Rise and Troubled Future – and the Challenge for America was an international bestseller, translated into 19 languages. Kynge is M.A. (Hons) in Chinese and Japanese from University of Edinburgh in 1985.
