Invitation to seminar with Chris Warhurst
What we know, what we don’t know and what we need to do about skills utilisation
With Chris Warhurst, University of Sydney.
The seminar will be introduced by Associate Professor Chris Matheu.
This seminar charts past and current policy thinking on skills and indicates the direction in which policy thinking ought to head with respect to skills utilisation. Across the OECD countries in the 1990s emphasis was placed by government on improving the supply of skills.
More recent policy thinking has emphasized the need to address the demand for skills, with a particular focus on improving workplace skills utilisation. A policy to practice gap exists however with little understanding or take up of skills utilisation.
The seminar examines this gap, highlighting the workplace and conceptual limitations of current policy thinking and using lessons from the analysis seeks to provide better understanding of skills utilisation and indicate how more effective skills utilisation might be achieved.
