PhD defence: Frans Bévort
Making sense of management with logics. An ethnographic study of accountants who became managers
In order to obtain the PhD degree Frans Bévort has submitted his PhD thesis.
When professionals become managers they are faced with the challenge of making sense of two contradictory institutional logics: A logic of professionalism and a logic of bureaucracy.
The dissertation discusses how this takes place based on data from an ethnographic study of accountants who become managers. Theoretically the analysis adds to the understanding of the micro-foundations of institutions by combining institutional and sensemaking theory.
