PhD defence: Adrián Luis Mérida Gutiérrez
How do the careers of entrepreneurs differ from the rest? Is entrepreneurial experience valued in the labor market? Based on rich observational data from the registers of Denmark and using advanced econometric techniques, this thesis intends to contribute to the extant knowledge on the determinants and outcomes of an entrepreneurial experience by means of three different essays. The first study investigates the role of student employment in the decision of university students to start up a company upon graduation. The second essay examines how the careers of Danish graduates vary depending on whether and when in their lives they become entrepreneurs. Finally, the last chapter assesses how past entrepreneurial experience affects the pay of top managers.
