Guest lectures by Professor Philip Manov and Professor Richard Swedberg

During the first week of October, Professor Philip Manow, Universität Konstanz , Germany, and Professor Richard Swedberg, Cornell University, USA, gave two individual guest lectures to the first class of BSc Soc students, as an addition to the first semester course ‘Introduction to Economic Sociology’

Professor Swedberg entered into a discussion with the students about what economic sociology is. The Study Board hopes to be able to offer future BSc Soc first year students a chance to discuss economic sociology with Swedberg, whose main areas of research are economic sociology and sociological theory, within which he has written a number on books. Professor Manow gave a lecture with the title "The Transformation of Capitalism" for students in the BSc in Business Administration and Sociology programme. Manow is one of the most brilliant scholars of his generation. He has written a large number of books and articles within economic and political sociology and comparative sociology and politics.
