A jolly good place to be

“My CBS experience has been extraordinary and maybe a bit exceptional in the sense that I not only survived at CBS and in Denmark as a non-OECD international faculty member, but also thrived.”
Ravi Vatrapu, Professor with special responsibilities

I joined CBS in February 2009 after six and half years at the University of Hawaii at Manoa as a PhD student and postdoctoral researcher. My wife and I traded beautiful Honolulu for wonderful Copenhagen and are very happy with the decision and its positive consequences.

My CBS experience has been extraordinary and maybe a bit exceptional in the sense that I not only survived at CBS and in Denmark as a non-OECD international faculty member, but also thrived. During my seven years at CBS, I have created and developed my research laboratory Computational Social Science Laboratory, developed a new method of “social set analysis", secured external funding grants, and collaborated with quite a few Danish companies.

My career has progressed quickly at CBS from assistant professor in 2009 to associate professor in 2010 and professor with special responsibilities in 2012, which was made possible by the excellent support from research, teaching, and administrative units at CBS.

There are many excellent universities in the world. I think what makes CBS special is that it is both excellent and empathetic. I have only been at CBS for seven years, but I feel like I am part of it and increasingly use the collective term “we at CBS” with my colleagues and associates. Whether this is a symptom of group thinking or empowerment, I will leave for you to decide. To me, CBS is a jolly good place to be! :)
