CBS Career Academy

CBS Career Academy is a career development programme for a selected group of CBS’ most ambitious and talented master students. The students are selected based on academic performance, study background, experience and motivation and we seek to create a highly diverse group. The programme runs for 6 months from October to March with 70-80 students enrolled. This spring the first batch of 72 Career Academy students completed the programme.

CBS Career Academy is initiated by CBS Career Centre. Through personal and professional learning, we give the students the best possible requisite for making qualified career decisions and for identifying and landing their ideal first job. Specifically, we provide them with industry insights; we inspire and mentor them; we offer networking opportunities and specific tools, thus helping them in their career development and job search.

The motivation behind creating CBS Career Academy lies in the identification of many students wanting to receive a nuanced and true picture of what they can expect in their career.

Mentor role

We are seeking collaboration with alumni who are interested in taking on a mentor role for a group of CBS talents. The mentor is responsible for facilitating 4 mentor sessions of 2-3 hours with a group of students (5-7 students, selected by CBS Career Centre). You will be in charge of planning and facilitating the sessions based on pre-defined themes. We expect the sessions to take place in the afternoon/evening from 16 to 19 unless you and your student group agree otherwise.

We expect you to:

  • bring insights and perspectives from your industry/area of expertise
  • excel in teaching and workshop facilitation
  • be capable of engaging the students and make them an active part of the sessions
  • be prepared to discuss career topics and dilemmas with students
  • be able to challenge and inspire the students’ knowledge and perspectives
  • find it rewarding to share your experiences and develop CBS talents
  • contribute with min. 8 years of professional experience.

We are looking for alumni with various career backgrounds. Each mentor will represent a specific track /career path, e.g. HR, investment banking, marketing, which the students can choose from. We match students and mentors based on interests and preferences.

The objective of the mentor sessions is to enhance the students’ ability to reflect on their career. Through industry insights, inspiration, knowledge sharing, discussion of dilemmas, we develop the student’s career toolbox and strengthen their ability to navigate in their career.

Training partner role

We are seeking collaboration with motivational and inspirational CBS alumni with an interest in teaching a group of talented students on relevant career development topics.

As a Training Partner you will take part in one of Career Academy’s Training Days. Depending on the topic you will be responsible for facilitating a 2-4 hour workshop for 20-30 students. We expect the training to touch upon topics relevant for the students’ personal, professional or career development. The Training Days focus on insights, inspiration and hands-on practice. Examples of career development topics could be Presentation technique or Effective communication. We are curious to hear your ideas, so please share your suggestions with us.

To match a highly diverse group of students, we aim to create an interesting mix of backgrounds and expertise. If the following applies to you, you could be what we are looking for:

  • You are an experienced teacher/trainer within your field(s) of expertise
  • You are used to facilitating workshops, and you have a general understanding of working with a group of students
  • You know how to engage a group and create a good atmosphere
  • You are enthusiastic about sharing your knowledge and giving back to current CBS students
  • You have experience from a course provider, consultancy or internal training role

The objective of the Training Days is to strengthen the student’s personal and professional toolbox. We seek to both challenge and inspire in order to develop and prepare the students for their future career.

Practical details

CBS Career Centre will take care of all practicalities including advertising, administration and facilities. If needed, we can provide feedback on the content and planning of the sessions.
Engaging in Career Academy as a mentor also means participating in networking events across the programme. This is a great opportunity to get to know the other students and mentors. Training partners are also welcome to take part in the networking activities; however, participation is not mandatory. Please find information about dates in the attached timetable.
All mentors and training partners selected to take part in the programme will meet with Caroline Krzton in August/September to do the initial planning of the sessions/training.

Please note that the mentor and training partner roles are offered on a volunteer basis. Mentors and training partners are not entitled to any salary or remuneration.
