Workshop: Language, Work and Gender

The workshop focuses on the intersection of gender, work and language in processes such as gender discrimination in the workplace or in the recruitment process, equality in employment conditions, and the major continuities and transformations within gender struggles. To provide a nuanced
context for, understanding of and discussion on such processes, the workshop seeks to address both historical and contemporary perspectives on gender, work and/or language in society. These questions serve as focus points for the workshop’s talks and discussions:

• What do we gain from the ’gender’ concept, especially pertaining to language and work research?
• How can we account for gendered practices (in and outside of work contexts) and their impact on social inequality from a research perspective, but also from an activist angle?
• What do we gain from the concept when applying a historical view?
• What are the implications of the way that the gender concept has broadened from primarily feminist research to include LGBTQI research?
