MPP is pleased to invite you to a book reception on November 23, 15:00-16:30 celebrating two new books:

Bent Meier Sørensen

Skærmens magi. At træne modstandskraften i en digital tid

Kristeligt Dagblads Forlag, 255 sider.

The Magic of the Screen. How to Train Resistance in a Digital Age discusses (in Danish) how we handle the magic effect, the screens that surround us have on our lives and institutions. Its clear that we are tightly locked to our smartphone, whether we are five years old or eighty. What is less explored is the magic worldview that the techgiants in Silicon Valley promotes, namely a mixture of super AI, zen, anti-aging and space travels, and to which we are connected via global networks.

Through these networks, Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon have put fundamental European values under pressure. This has happened through invasion of our teaching instiutions, our work and leisure time, and our very democracy. We need to get back to the basic training of our ability to be alone without panicking, our ability to have face to face-conversations, and our ability to resist. We have, as it were, trained this through thousands of years, which is the reason why we’re still here.

Peter Holdt Christensen

Kig op. Undervisning uden et blåt skær

Samfundslitteratur, 181 sider.

Peter Holdt Christensen will present his new book Kig op. Undervisning uden et blåt skær. During classroom teaching students often engage their mobile devices, such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones, checking news, texting or otherwise surfing the net. Such behavior, however, harm learning opportunities and based on economic theory, sociology, social psychology, and students self-reported use of mobile devices I discuss why and how we best manage mobile devices in classrooms.
