PhD defence: Benjamin Asmussen
What role did networks play among the merchants of the Oldenburg Monarchy (Denmark, Norway etc) involved in the first China trade from 1730 to 1840? In this thesis, the combination of historical network analysis and prosopography allow for the traders responsible for the Chinese trade to be studied for the first time while their networks emerging from both business, religion, family and social conditions provide new knowledge about how the geographical, cultural and mental distances between Danish and Chinese businessmen were overcome.
