PhD defence: Thorsteinn Sigurdur Sveinsson
Population ageing is a prominent feature of most countries. This thesis, composed of four independent chapters, is concerned with economic implications of demographic change. The findings include effects of demographics on the optimal level of public capital, backlash effects on labour supply following increases in the retirement age, inter- and intra-generational effects of longevity adjustments of pension schemes, and the significance of healthy ageing for retirement decisions.
