In order to provide the current students and alumni of the Executive MBA in Shipping and Logistics (Blue MBA) with a good networking platform, the program has taken the initiative to arrange some shipping industry related events at CBS. The first one will be delivered on 31st August on

Philip ROGERS is an ex Merchant Navy Navigator with 41 years experience in the shipping industry the last 29 of which have been as a market commentator, shipping analyst and economist. As well as seagoing qualifications he holds a BSc in Maritime Studies (Plymouth) and a PhD in Transport Economics (LondonMetropolitanUniversity). After leaving the Merchant Navy in 1974 and working for three years for a UK shipowner Philip commenced his analytical career in 1977 with H. Clarkson where he spent 7 years working on the dry bulk, LNG and coal markets.

In 1980 he was awarded the Institute of Shipbrokers prize for Maritime Economics and qualified as a Chartered Shipbroker. In 1984 he was invited to join London shipbrokers Simpson, Spence & Young to create the Research Division and was appointed its Managing Director in 1990 – SSY Research today is globally rated in the top 3 shipbroking research companies. In 2000 he was invited to join MaritimeDirect in New York as Content Director and within six months launched a maritime website that attracted 2.5 million visitors and contained some 17,000 pages of dynamic content. Returning to the UK Philip was appointed as Group Head of Research and Analysis at Galbraith's Shipbrokers in London.

He is the author of the book "Coal: Carriage by Sea" published by the Informa Group and has published many other papers on coal and energy matters as well as the dry bulk shipping markets. From 1984 to 2000 he was a member of the UN’s Committee of Coal Experts based in Geneva. He is a frequent speaker on shipping issues and to date has presented at over 60 international maritime conferences. In addition he has taught International Trade for over 25 years and is the External Examiner for both the Institute of Shipbrokers and PlymouthUniversity's MSc Shipping program.
