Strategies of Chinese MNCs

The seminar focuses on how former Chinese state owned enterprises grow, adapt and operate as multinational companies. The seminar will cover an overview on Chinese economic reform, economic issues and concerns in the high growth transitionary economy, as well as insights to business operations and strategies for selected Chinese multinational companies. In particular, we will be looking at corporate development for Baosteel, Haier and Tsingdao Brewery.

The materials are based on research and visits to the Chinese companies in 2006 and 2007.The visits were part of China Industry Study Tour for the Executive MBA programme at The UWA Business School. During the tours, the participants met up with the senior management of various multinational corporations to discuss about the challenges and opportunities in doing business in China. The field trips included visits to both foreign multinational companies as well as Chinese companies from a range of industries in Qingdao, Beijing, Shanghai and its surrounding towns.
