Interest groups in the European Union

Sabine Saurugger and Heike Kluever will debate the influence and importance of NGOs and lobbyism in the EU

The speakers will present their recent research on interest groups in the European Union. Heike Klüver will focus on lobbyism and its influence on law and policy making at a European level. The title of her presentation is "Lobbying successfully: Interest groups, lobbying coalitions and policy change in the European Union".

Sabine Saurugger, PhD (Sciences Po Paris) is Professor of Politics at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Grenoble, Research fellow at the Center of Public Policy, Political Action and Geography (PACTE), Grenoble and member of the Institut universitaire de France (IUF). Recent publications focus on theories of European integration and politics and have been published in the European Journal of Political Research, West European Politics, Political Studies, Comparative Politics, Journal of European Public Policy, Revue française de Science Politique and Swiss Revue of Political Science. She currently works on instruments of participation in the European Union and the resistances to European integration.

Heike Klüver is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Nuffield College at the University of Oxford.  She received her PhD from the University of Mannheim in 2010 and holds a Master in Political Science and Economics from the University of Heidelberg. Her research interests include interest groups, European Union politics, political institutions and legislative politics. She has published several articles in European Union Politics and the Journal of European integration. Heike Klüver is currently working on a book manuscript on interest group influence on European policy-making and is also involved in an international collaborative research project on interest group politics in the European Union.
