Entrepreneurship as organization-creation: who cares for your skin? The emergence of skin and haircare in France in the 20th century
The paper aims to understand the way diverse constituents participate in the emergence of a new industry or market category. It is based on a historical empirical analysis of a central industry in the globalisation wave of the 20th and 21st centuries (Jones, 2010). It looks at the selective distribution of skin and hair care products in France in the 20th century. This novelty involved a discussion between customers, products, competing distributors, regulators and prescribers. The paper uses a multi-‐level analysis (macro-meso-micro) to understand the emergence of a new category skin and hair-care products.
