Guest lecture (in Spanish) by Jose Perez Garcia

Five years ago Venezuela and Cuba initiated a trade and cooperation programme based on new values. Instead of competition and neo-liberal free trade agreements the programme builds on solidarity, cooperation and mutual benefit. It all started with Venezuela delivering oil to Cuba and Cuba supplying Venezuela with teachers and doctors.

Since then cooperation has grown enormously to include many more areas and countries: Bolivia and Nicaragua are full members and Ecuador, Haiti and other Caribbean countries participate in individual projects and are on their way to joining ALBA as the programme is called.

ALBA - the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas – is intended as a promise of better times for the poor in Latin America and something of a challenge for the USA.

The Cuban economist Jose Perez Garcia gives a lecture and answers questions about these issues.

The lecture is in Spanish
