Bjerkem International Performing Arts - Course I
The Bjerkem courses are being designed by Bjerkem Natur og Kultur (Bjerkem Nature and Culture) in close cooperation with with Trøndelag Forskning og Utvikling A/S (Trondelag Studies and Development Ltd.) Research Leader Niels Arvid Sletterød, and with Copenhagen Business School, Professor in Management Philosophy, Ole Fogh Kirkeby, Director of the Centre of Arts and Management.
Bjerkem International Performing Arts courses offer a unique new Scandinavian management concept. They combine the most recent research in management and management experience with the profound insights of one of the oldest, most autonomous and democratic cultures in history. Bjerkem is the symbol of independent creative individualism, an unwavering sense of community spirit, and respect for the human being. These are the three attitudes to be vivified by the New Leadership.
Modern managers and their employees are today searching for ways of combining work and leisure, ways of keeping them separate, and ways of making both spheres bloom. Rooted in the three fundamental dimensions of Norwegian folk arts, namely, dance, music and narration, they have known how to do this for centuries at Bjerkem.
At Bjerkem, the participants are not going to meet slick new management gimmicks, but a genuine philosophy of leadership and many years of experience with allowing art and management to stimulate each other. Faculty is drawn from some of the world's most visionary institutions.
Visitors to Bjerkem will find themselves in a position to reflect more freely and fundamentally on their own basic attitudes as leaders and as human beings, and they will learn the profound sense in which management is not a technology, but an art.
