Latin America and Globalization: Views from the Americas and Europe

The Center for the Study of the Americas is hosting a conference on present issues and future prospects for Latin America in a globalized world.

The purpose of this conference is to present diverse views on the present situation, major issues and future prospects for Latin America in a globalized world. A variety of views will be sought reflecting Latin America, the United States, and Europe as well as special attention to the emerging role of China.

The conference will include two keynote speakers: Dr Isaac Cohen (Guatemala) former Deputy Director United Nations Economic Commission on Latin America and the Caribbean (CEPAL) and Dr William Ratliff, Hoover Institute, Stanford as well as three panel discussions with invited panellists:

  • Latin America in the World: Current Trends

  • The Globalization of Violence and the Future of Latin America

  • Latin America and the World: A Clouded Future

A publication will hopefully result from these sessions.
