Wednesday, September 26, 2007 - 15:00 to 17:30

The Coffee Club and Centre for Business and Development Studies invite you to a seminar and debate on the significance of Fair Trade/Sustainability Initiatives for coffee producers in developing countries.

This is the second seminar on Fair Trade in the global value chain for coffee arranged by The Coffee Club and CBS. Whereas the first seminar focused on consumption of Fair Trade coffee in Denmark, this seminar takes us to the coffee producing countries and the reality of coffee producers.

Representatives of coffee farmers in Nicaragua and Uganda will tell about the reality of coffee production in those countries, highlighting the challenges and opportunities for farmers to improve their living conditions.

Representatives from Max Havelaar (in Denmark), Utz Certified and Rainforest Alliance will explain how Fair Trade and Sustainability Certification Systems work and how coffee farmers may benefit from these initiatives.

Senior Researcher at the Danish Institute for International Studies Stefano Ponte will be moderator during the seminar. The seminar will be held in English.
