Conference arranged by The Center for the Study of the Americas

The Center for the Study of the Americas will be hosting a conference on north American perceptions and representations of Europe. Contributions have been invited around the following themes:

• American perceptions of Europe: history and development

• Representations of European society, culture and demography

• European economies and markets

• Europe as a trading partner and economic competitor

• European foreign and defence policies

• Perceptions of European political processes

Stan Sloan, the founding Director of the Atlantic Community Initiative, will be keynote speaker with a lecture on The Bush Administration and Europe. It is planned to offer opportunities for the presentation of research ideas as well as formal papers. The conference is intended as a starting point for the creation of a research network and a basis for the publication of an edited collection.
