Standpoint as creative industry
CBS outlines the future potential for 5 creative industries in Denmark
In prolonging of the strategic focus on research in experience economy, the CBS center imagine.. is behind the publication of five Annual Mappings that outline the future potential for the Danish fashion, film, music, design and computer games industries.
These industries face the challenge of establishment and consolidation, and questions such as size, growth, organization and market dynamics are valued. But also strategic questions as identifying bottlenecks, strength position and future competitive advantages are valued.
To find a standpoint as a creative industry
“Creative industries are in a rapid development these years. As a starting point they are artistic and cultural and are starting to find their standpoint as real industries because of growth and technological developments. This gives a range of new challenges in relation to competition and export. We hope that the mappings can help to put focus on the challenges and be an inspiration for both industries, organizations and politicians”, says Mark Lorenzen, Associate Professor at imagine.. and one of the organizers of the five mappings.
From success to disaster
In one of the reports it is recommended that the two wings in the Danish fashion industry – the large, heavy corporations as e.g. Brandtex, who are good at running a business, and the small design companies – must become better at cooperating. It is also emphasized that that there are attractive growth markets in China and Eastern Europe for export of Danish design. Especially within computer games there are many advices to gain. The report shows that the industry today misses large incomes, because the companies sell their copy rights too early in the development process in order to attract capital. This might mean that what looks like a Danish success industry, might contribute less to the Danish balance of payments than it was hoped for.
imagine.. Annual Mappings are not research projects, but short mappings of five upcoming creative industries, published with the purpose of providing more knowledge and understanding of the creative industries and the experience economy to practitioners, as well as to policy makers and government representatives.
imagine.. Annual Mappings 2005 are:
The Danish Computer Games Industry, The Danish Design Industry, The Danish Fashion Industry, The Danish Film Industry, The Danish Recorded Music Industry.
