The Bush Administration, Sex and the Moral Agenda
Book by Associate Professor Edward Ashbee
Abortion, sex education and marriage of people of the same sex; these are some of the subjects being discussed in a new book ”The Bush Administration, Sex and the Moral Agenda” by Associate Professor Edward Ashbee from Center for the Study of the Americas.
Bush pursued a skillful course
In the book the Bush administration politics are discussed relating to a number of subject, and contrary to public opinion it states that President Bush pursued a skillful course at least during the first part of his term. The course accommodated the views of individuals as well as organizations with associations to the right wing and the broad public opinion.
Contributions to the debate
- I hope that the book will make a contribution to discussions about US politics in Denmark and beyond. President Bush is unpopular in much of Europe and because of that we often make too many assumptions about the policies that his administration has pursued. The book suggests that during his first term of office, Bush adopted a carefully crafted strategy when it came to issues such as abortion and gay rights. Although he accommodated the interests of activists associated with the Christian right he also ensured that policy hardly ever went beyond the bounds of median public opinion, says Edward Ashbee.
