Students to debate education policies

Thousands of students in further education throughout the country will have the chance, on Tuesday 6th November, to take part in an election debate hosted by the Copenhagen Business School.

The younger members of the electorate will be ready in auditoriums from Aalborg to Copenhagen to pose questions to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Per Stig Møller (Conservatives), the Minister for Education, Bertel Haarser (Liberals), Peter Skaarup (Danish People’s Party), and other politicians, as they rally in discussions on topics such as globalisation, education policies and dissemination of research, as well as quality reforms.

It’s an old wives’ tale that young people don’t get involved in elections – particularly when you take into consideration the group behind this nationwide election debate.

The election develops the public sector

Students from the Student Council at CBS have taken the initiative for this arrangement, together with the people behind the postgraduate Master of Public Administration course.

-As a provider of a public business management education, it is important to support the political process and encourage involvement – also with the young people. An election helps to develop the public sector, and we want to ensure that young people are given the best possible basis for decisions, says Programme Director, Kristoffer Brix Bertelsen.

Chairman for the Student Council at CBS, Henrik Thorn, explains that the students want to put education policies on the agenda in the election campaign.

-We create a better basis for debate by involving students from the further education courses around the country. It gives us a good idea of the various opinions from different cultures, says Henrik Thorn, explaining the background for creating this national election debate.

Renowned researchers from CBS are preparing the ground for the debate, and the meeting will be transmitted to auditoriums at the University of Copenhagen, the University of Southern Denmark, the University of Århus, Århus School of Business, Roskilde University, and the University of Aalborg.
