’Design and Governance of Economic Institutions’ is the title of the research area for which ECON was granted the label “CBS World-Class Research Environment” and accordingly extra resources for new and path breaking research in the design of economic institutions and the way these are managed. The research area covers the proper design and appropriate governance of economic institutions broadly defined (markets, organizations, regulators) and will be made concrete through various research projects covering socio-economics and business economics. This research is undertaken in close cooperation with Centre for Corporate Governance (CCG) and Centre for Economic and Business Research (CEBR).

”To achieve the World Class status we have had to publish in international refereed journals. We already improved our record significantly by publishing in some of the World’s leading journals in economics, finance and political science. In addition, we have worked to become more efficient in raising external research funds and accordingly received extra resources from both public and private sources”, says Professor Peter Møllgaard, head of the Department of Economics.

”New research shows that good economic institutions affect long-run economic growth positively. By enhancing our knowledge of the design and performance of economic institutions and how they may be improved, we wish to contribute new knowledge that may be harnessed to the benefit of society – locally and globally – and to create a better business environment. Our overarching aim is to contribute to a better world for firms and citizens”, points out Peter Møllgaard.
