Sustainability in a Scandinavian Context
The Sustainability in a Scandinavian Context Conference 2013 is hosted by the Nordic Centre for Sustainability at the Copenhagen Business School and will take place during 10-11 June 2013.
Scandinavia is often recognized as a world leader in sustainability. Scandinavian companies are disproportionately well-represented in the major sustainability performance indicators including the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) and the Scandinavian region as a whole has demonstrated remarkably strong and balanced country-level economic, environmental, societal, and economic performances. Furthermore, the most commonly used definition of sustainability as “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising future generations to meet its needs” has Scandinavian roots as it is drawn from the 1987 “Brundtland Report” in reference to the chair of the committee: former Norwegian Prime Minister Gro Harlen Brundtland. In sum, Scandinavia represents a particularly promising context in which to consider sustainability and the associated issues.
However, the challenges associated with sustainability continue to grow within Scandinavia and throughout the world where the intent of this conference is to bring academics and practitioners together from around the world to consider sustainability in a Scandinavian context and the potential development a research paradigm dedicated to studying sustainability in a Scandinavian context.
The conference is divided into two days where Day 1, Monday 10 June, is an academic-practitioner friendly day in which speakers and panelists will consider sustainability in a Scandinavian context through a series of lectures and facilitated discussions. A group dinner for all conference participants will be held in the evening. Day 2, Tuesday 11 June, commences with presentations of extended abstracts by conference participants with feedback offered to encourage full paper submission to a special issue dedicated to “Sustainability in a Scandinavian Context” with a respected international journal (to be announced prior to the conference).
The conference will commence at 9.00 on 10 June and will conclude at 18.30 on 11 June. The registration fee is 1300dkk (approximately 175€).
