Workshop: Language Technology and Business
Workshop
Research in language technology has been progressing rapidly in recent years, and it promises to make important contributions to business productivity and innovation. So far, this progress has had only limited impact on Danish business and society.
In this workshop we look at how to exploit the enormous potential of language technology in Denmark. We will present a series of demos and case studies with presenters across a wide spectrum of research disciplines, looking at topics such as sentiment analysis, the detection of emotions and arousal in text, and the classification and analysis of text for business-relevant goals. We will also look at the relevance of Big Data for Danish language technology.
This workshop will be of interest to researchers who are interested in finding out what is possible with language technology today, and especially those who are interested in the potential for applications of language technology in business.

Takeaways
Language technology now provides a range of tools that make it possible to automatically gain insights into the topics, emotions and opinions expressed in texts. Demos of several such tools will be presented, both for English and Danish text – many of these tools are openly available to researchers and other interested parties. What is particularly exciting now is that researchers are thinking creatively about how language technology can address crucial topics in fields such as marketing, management, and business analytics.
