PhD defence: Marie Kruse Skibssted
This Ph.D. thesis, entitled “Empirical Essays in Economics of Education and Labor”, examines the determinants of individuals’ educational choices and the labor market implications of such choices. The first chapter estimates the returns to business education compared with education in other fields of the social sciences. The second chapter examines the relationship between detailed educational characteristics and labor market outcomes, measured by the probability of attaining a leadership role and hourly wages. The third chapter investigates the impact of peers’ ability level on students' decisions to drop out and on their first-year GPAs. Finally, the fourth chapter assesses the impact from peers’ choice of master’s program on students’ own choice of master’s programs.
