Business as Unusual – Cross-Sector Collaboration for Humanitarian Action

“Future business leaders need to realise that sustainable business practices do not end at their own front door. It is therefore crucial to understand collaborative engagement between the private sector and humanitarian actors.” Andreas Rasche, Professor of Business in Society, CBS Centre for Sustainability, Copenhagen Business School

You are invited to join the CBS Centre for Sustainability for the launch of a teaching case by CBS researchers Verena Girschik, Jasper Hotho and Andreas Rasche about Partnering for Change: A cross-sector partnership between Novo Nordisk, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Danish Red Cross (DRC). Andreas Rasche will host the webinar and speakers will include Peter Klansø from the DRC, Mette Morsing from the UN Global Compact and Soraya Ramoul from Novo Nordisk.

Partnering for Change (P4C)

The partnership was formed in 2018 between the ICRC, DRC and Novo Nordisk to tackle the growing issue of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) affecting millions of people in humanitarian crises worldwide. It represents an unusual cross-sector collaboration between the private sector and humanitarian organisations. The three organisations have united around a common vision that all people affected by humanitarian crises should have access to the NCD care they need, no matter where they are.

About the webinar

Copenhagen Business School (CBS) has developed a teaching case about the P4C partnership. The case will be made available worldwide to teach tertiary education students about cross-sector partnerships as a means to address some of the big issues facing society, like noncommunicable diseases in humanitarian crises. The webinar launching the teaching case will share the background to the partnership’s formation, which is unusual in the sense that business-humanitarian collaborations must navigate challenges around ethics and effectiveness. The three panellists will also reflect on how businesses and humanitarian actors can learn from the experiences gained so far throughout the P4C collaboration.
