PhD defence: Niels Fuglsang

In order to obtain the PhD degree, Niels Fuglsang has submitted his thesis entitled: The Politics of Economic Models An inquiry into the possibilities and limits concerning the rise of macroeconomic forecasting models and what this means for policymaking

Tuesday, December 21, 2021 - 15:00 to 17:00

Niels Fuglsang

What happens to the economy if the politicians cut taxes or raise social benefits? The Danish Finance Ministry’s economic forecasting models play an increasingly important role for policy making when they are used to analyze the effects of different policies. The thesis investigates how the models have developed, how they both enable and constrain policy makers, and how the models are overtly objective and covertly political.
