5,181 apply to CBS

CBS received a total of 5,181 first priority applications before the deadline on July 5th. Even though applications are down six per cent compared to last year, it is still better than the average drop of nine per cent across all universities, and for CBS, it is a return to pre-pandemic numbers.

– We are pleased to receive every application we get. There are a lot of highly qualified and very talented applicants, and we look forward to beginning the new academic year, says Acting President Inger Askehave, before continuing:

– It is clear from this year’s number of applicants, which is down to the levels of 2019 and 2020, that the two previous years have been overshadowed by COVID-19. Fortunately, we are now approaching our normal level, says Inger Askehave.    

This is confirmed by this years’ drop in the number of applicants, especially for the Danish-language programmes, which are down twelve per cent, while there is a slight rise in the first priority applications for CBS’ English-language programmes.

– The drop in Danish-language first priorities can probably be attributed to young people wanting to enjoy a sabbatical or gap year filled with new experiences following the tedious pandemic-years, when they, for instance, were not able to travel. Current economic conditions also makes it relatively easy for young people to get an interesting job, says Inger Askehave.    

The average drop in the number of applicants means that thirteen out of nineteen Bachelor-programmes have received fewer first priority applications.

This is specifically noticeable for International Business in Asia-China, BSc in Business Administration and Philosophy and BSc in Business Administration and Law, where the primary reasons could be difficulties in entering China in the pandemic, the closure in 2025 of the MSc in Business Administration and Philosophy, and new criteria of a minimum grade 6 in maths, level B. Among the programmes with an increased number of applicants are BSc in International Business, BSc in Business Administration and Psychology and BSc in International Shipping and Trade.

In all, 7,392 individual students have applied across priorities. CBS expects an intake of 3,195 new students this year. The applicants will be notified during the night between July 27th and 28th.
