BIGFI successfully celebrates its opening
On March 2, 2023, the Center for Big Data in Finance (BIGFI) celebrated its official opening with an event that marked the beginning of an exciting new development for CBS and finance research more broadly. The event was attended by some of world’s leading researchers in the field of finance, finance practitioners, students, and other interested participants.
The event commenced with opening remarks from Søren-Peter Olesen, the CEO of the Danish National Research Foundation, who expressed his enthusiasm for the center's potential to generate new insights into the complex world of finance.
Center Director Lasse Heje Pedersen took the stage to present his vision for BIGFI and outline the research directions that the center will pursue. Lasse Heje Pedersen highlighted the possibility of leveraging the vast amounts of data that are now available and combining this with cutting-edge data science and computing power. He also discussed the opportunity that BIGFI has to bring together leading experts on financial markets and economic agents.
Associate Center member Kim Peijnenburg from EDHEC then took the floor to share new findings on how households make trading decisions. Kim Peijnenburg's research promises to shed new light on the behavior of individual investors and how they interact with financial markets.
Tobias J. Moskowitz from Yale School of Management gave a keynote on how big data research is used in investments in academia and practice. Tobias J. Moskowitz's presentation emphasized the potential that BIGFI has to generate new knowledge and drive innovation in the field of finance.
Throughout the event, attendees had the opportunity to interact with one another and to learn more about the center's research objectives and plans. The launch of BIGFI reflects the growing importance of big data in finance and the ambition that the center will seek to make important contributions that will be useful to academia, practitioners, policy makers, and students.
