The deadline for Quota 1 applications to the bachelor programmes was 5 July 2023. These new figures show CBS received 6,036 1st priority bachelor applications, which is the highest number ever and constitutes an increase of 16 per cent compared to 2022. The average increase across the eight Danish universities is eight per cent.
“Above all, I’m delighted to see such interest in CBS. To me, it confirms that the staff at CBS have managed to develop some highly attractive study programmes. But I also realise that we will unfortunately have to turn down a good many qualified applicants,” says Nikolaj Malchow-Møller, President of CBS.
He has a message for all applicants about lifelong learning:
“To all those who have been accepted, I’d like to say: I hope that the start of your degree is the beginning of a long relationship with CBS. And to those who, sadly, were not: Remember that our work life undergoes changes and that your first degree will not necessarily define the rest of your work life. In future, many of us will have more than one career throughout life, and therefore, we will be on a path of continuous learning,” says Nikolaj Malchow-Møller.
Repercussions of Covid-19
Overall, more young people have applied for higher education this year, and part of the explanation is likely due to the after-effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2020 and 2021, the shutdown contributed to more applicants, as opportunities for travelling abroad or for employment were severely limited. Last year, however, there were fewer applicants, because employment rates had picked up and there were more opportunities for travelling and attending folk high school amongst other things. Many young people are likely to have taken an additional gap year and are now ready to start studying. Another reason for the increase is the higher number of international applicants.
Admission answers are sent 28 July
Answers to all applicants are sent by email from midnight on 28 July, after which, those who are offered a study place can log on to the online student service and accept the offer.
